Chief Financial Officer (Finance)

Benga Mining Limited, a subsidiary of Australian based Riversdale Resources Limited, is looking for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide financial management strategic business development services to the not only Benga Mining and its activities in Alberta, Canada, but also the Riversdale group. The successful applicant will be required to relocate to Vancouver, BC.

The CFO supervises the finance unit and is the chief financial spokesperson for the organisation. The CFO reports directly to the Managing Director on all matters and is required to interact closely with all board members. The CFO is also responsible for the business development and function of the company.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

 Assist in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the organisation's mission. 

 Develop a finance team to cover the financial reporting, regulatory and strategic objectives of the company.  Also contribute to the development of a technical team.  To assist with developing staff succession and growth plans. 

 Along with the MD, play a key role in investor relations including participating in any road show events that may be required as part of any fundraising. 

 Develop and execute on funding strategies for the organisation to ensure the company is adequately funded with the optimal capital structure to achieve its goals.  This would include maintaining relationships with appropriate financial institutions and financiers. 

 Represent the company with stakeholders at all levels which may include federal, provincial and local governments as well as suppliers, local communities, Aboriginal Groups, customers, employees etc. 

 Along with the MD, attend and present to industry conferences. 

 Lead the discussion and negotiation with partners that are key to the company achieving its objectives.  This would include major contractors, rail and port operators etc. 

 Play a key role in managing the relationship with any joint venture partner on any of the company’s projects. 

 Participate in developing new business, specifically: assist the MD in identifying new business opportunities and managing the due diligence, negotiation and integration process.  Strong commercial and negotiation skills are a requirement.  Having a basic understanding of all part of the business development (finance, legal, technical, environmental etc) is important. 

 Oversee the development of group budgets and present them to board for comment and approval. 

 Develop and oversee the group IT framework. 

 Oversee the development and implementation of appropriate group internal and project cost controls and project reporting systems.  Ensure adequate controls are installed and that substantiating documentation is approved and available such that all purchases may pass independent and governmental audits. 

 Manage the group financial audit. 

 Provide the project team with an operating budget and regular reports to track performance. 

 Oversee all purchasing and payroll activity for staff and participants. 

 Attend Board and Subcommittee meetings; including being the lead staff on the Audit/Finance Committee. 

 Monitor banking activities of the organization. 

 Ensure adequate cash flow to meet the organization's needs. 

 Oversee the production of monthly reports for board and financier consumption. 

 Oversee the group HR function including hiring, dispute resolution, performance reviews and the development and implementation of any incentive schemes as approved by the board. 

 Oversee business insurance plans and health care coverage analysis. 

   REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES 

 Foster and cultivate business opportunities and partnerships. 

 Create and assess financial statements and budget documents. 

 Trends and developments in global commodity and specifically coking coal markets. 

 Trends and developments in global equity and debt markets including new products and structures. 

 Organizational development, human resources, and program operations. 

 General office software, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. 

Ability to: 

 Recognize and be responsive to the needs of all clients of the organization, including funding organizations, the Board of Directors, local communities, participants, and employers. 

 Supervise staff, including regular progress reviews and plans for improvement. 

 Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

Education: 

 Completion of a bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university or equivalent work experience. 

 Chartered Accountant 

 Finance degree (under‐graduate or post‐graduate) is also preferred. 

Experience: 

 Chief Financial Officer level. 

 Significant financial experience and management experience with the day‐to‐day financial operations. 

 Experience in the mining sector is a must with direct experience with large scale project development considered valuable. 

 Experience in the global financial markets with both equity and structured finance is important.

Compensation

Salary: $250,000.00 - $300,000.00/Annually
