Trevali Mining Corporation (Trevali) is a Canadian, zinc-focused base metals mining company with operations in Peru and Canada.

In Peru, the Company has commenced commissioning and concentrate production at its Santander zinc-lead-silver mine and 2,000-tonne-per-day metallurgical plant. The Company anticipates declaring Commercial Production at the Santander Mine shortly. Over the next 5-years the Company plans to grow internal production by doubling production from the Santander unit from 2,000 to 4,000 tpd. All of the Company's deposits remain open for expansion and aggressive exploration programs are planned for 2014.

Located in Lima Department, Peru, the Santander Mine enjoys ease of accessibility and modern infrastructure including a newly installed 2,000-tonne-per-day (tpd) processing/concentrate plant. Mining operations at Trevali's 100%-controlled Santander Mine has been undertaken with development partner Glencore International who also serves as mill operator and contract mining for Trevali. The 500-person camp has been modernized and fully refurbished.

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Operations Superintendent position is focused on providing oversight to the plant and mine production activities managed by Trevali's operating contractor LQSA.

This position also provides oversight to various other contract suppliers (laboratory, surface energy, site security, camp management). It is critical for the incumbent to develop and maintain a positive, strong and effective working relationship with Trevali's operating contractor - LQSA. This position must liaise with the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager to ensure safe operating procedures are in place and are being complied to. 

This position requires 7 day / week site presence. The chosen incumbent will work approximately 5 days per week at Trevali's Santander mine site. As such, this position will be one of two people working an appropriate roster of duties that facilitates some overlap as well as continuous site coverage. 

The property is accessible by road from Lima, either via the town of Huaral and continuing through the villages of Acos and Tingo to Santander (distance of 215 km) or via the town of Canta to Santander, a distance of 200 km. The company provides transportation to and from the mine. The mine is located at approximately 4,300 meters elevation.

This position reports to the Operations Manager. Mine and Mill General Contractors, environmental, camp management, surface services, logistics, all report through this position.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Reporting to the Operations Manager and as part of the site leadership team, the incumbent will focus on ensuring support for the operation, creating a culture of on-going process improvement and increasing plan throughput.

  • Ensure safe operating procedures are in place and followed. Promote compliance with health, safety and environmental measures at all times. Advise the Operations Manager or Chief Operating Officer of any unsafe operating procedures or non-compliance and immediately cease operations in any unsafe events
  •  

  • Assist the Operations Manager to set annual production goals, plan approvals and compliance issues, identify strategies that support the growth of the operation, set priorities and develop key performance measures
  •  

  • Implement company strategies through Trevali's operating contractor - LQSA, in order to achieve required production and profitability performance
  •  

  • Analyze production data and reports, investigate variances and recommend/implement agree to operational action plans to continually increase production and profitability
  •  

  • Assist in the short and long term planning, engineering and cost studies for any mine expansion activity
  •  

  • Provide weekly operations reports on issues, concerns, activities and recommended remedial actions required
  •  

  • Assist in the development of any annual capital budgets and monitor/manage monthly costs
  •  

  • Manager any other contractor relationships (camp, security, surface power etc.) to ensure safe, effective and efficient operation and adherence to budgets and contract requirements/deliverables
QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications include:
  • An engineering degree Mining, Geological, Civil or Metallurgical Engineering is a preferred
  • 12+ years experience in underground mine production management
  • Previous leadership experience with a proven history of management underground mining operations
  • Fluency in Spanish is a prerequisite, with English as a second language preferrable
  • Superior interpersonal skills including proactive work disposition, strong influencing skills, contractor relationship management and effective teamwork skills
  • Detailed knowledge of all phases of mining and the integration of community relations, mining, milling, technical services, camp services, maintenance services
  • Ability to develop operating plans and strategies, preparing budgets and cost estimates
  • Commitment to demonstrating continuous process improvement, teamwork, professionalism, ethical behavior, open/honest communications and respect for others
  • Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites at altitude
  • Previous experience in the zinc mining industry is a plus
  • Experience in the financial aspects of mining such as cost control, budgeting and increasing return on investment
