The Senior Geological Engineer job is a full time staff position based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

Overview:

This position is located near Vanscoy, Saskatchewan (approximately 33 kilometers southwest of Saskatoon), at our client’s Potash Mine facility. The facility produces four sizes of high quality potash for shipment to markets around the world. The ore body is one kilometer below the surface. An extensive network of underground roads takes workers to the mine faces and various shops. This operation directly employs over 600 people.

Specific Role Description: 

Reporting to the Mine Engineering Superintendent, the Senior Geological Engineer is responsible for all matter geology related, including production and exploration requirement and strategy, resource and reserve stewardship, rock mechanics and rehabilitation planning as well strategic growth opportunities for geology inside the Mine Engineering department. More so, this position will administrate the geology portion of human resources, projects, budget and cost.

Specific responsibilities include:

Exploration requirements & strategy - planning, evaluation & development/review of a geologic model for the site
Resource/reserve stewardship - ensuring that the processes in place for resource/reserve stewardship are followed and that updates are provided as required for 43-101 filings and annual requirements
Strategic geology- evaluating technologies and available information to reduce mining risk in the future
Strategic site growth- involvement in establishment of future commercial production options, government interactions over unitization, land/resource management issues;
Production geology- all elements related to grade projections, disturbance projections, daily underground field support and ensuring that planning layouts are following our rock mechanics requirements;
Rock mechanics - review stress layouts, bolting installations, critical areas and room placements to ensure that we are following our established guidelines and providing the required documentation
Rehabilitation planning - evaluating rehabilitation issues to ensure that our access requirements are safe and reliable at all times...this includes forecasting future rehabilitation requirements and stewarding to a capital AFE in the current fiscal year

Requirements:

A Bachelor degree in Geological Engineering or related degree.
Have 7-10 years of mining engineering experience, preferably underground potash.
P.Eng. designation or capability to quickly get it, or equivalent.
Able to handle a large and varied workload.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, problem solving, and organization skills.
Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
Act as a strong safety leader in all aspects of the underground operation.
Experience working with MS Office, SAP, and Mine Design software such as Vulcan.
