Senior Mine Engineer (Engineering)

Responsibilities:

  • Capable of completing tasks in a timely, cost efficient, safe and environmentally friendly manner.
  • Occasionally travel to mine site(s) for technical support.
  • Assist in the management of tenure for all properties and report quarterly on the status of these tenures.
  • Help develop, track and report on project timelines across all disciplines within the engineering department.
  • Participate in the technical and financial analysis of potentially accretive acquisitions.
  • Develop optimized life of mine and medium term life designs, including pit design, scheduling and budgeting, and communicating the results of this work to the corporate team.
  • Assume a project management role for some aspects of mine design and development components, evaluating consultant proposals, controlling costs, and coordinating deliverables.
  • Provide corporate review assistance of life of mine, 5 year plans and year plans, identifying and communicating all mine development issues and risks within the short to long-term planning horizon, as well as critical analysis of existing plans.
  • Participate in the corporate transfer of technological solutions for long term operational improvements.
  • Presents results of studies and projects to engineering staff in Vancouver through a variety of methods, not limited to, but including, written reports, memos, live presentations, and informal meetings.
  • Provide maps, plans and assist in producing power point presentations for the engineering department.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mining or a related discipline with a minimum of 7 years of experience in open pit mining engineering, preferably with copper and gold, with at least 3 years mine planning and operations experience.
  • Ability to qualify for APEGBC status as a Professional Engineer will be considered a strong asset.
  • Familiar with geotechnical considerations in pit, tailings, and dump design. Proven project management experience.
  • Strong MS Office and computer skills with an emphasis on spreadsheets and mine planning software (Vulcan, Minesight, Whittle and Scheduling software experience would be an asset). Accomplished written, verbal, and group presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team environment.
  • Ability to travel to operations sites for technical support up to 20% of the time.
