Senior Safety Manager, Tanjianshan (Health, Safety & Training)

Eldorado Gold is a Canadian-based, low-cost gold producer with operations in Asia, Europe and South America. We have seven operating mines and a pipeline of projects in different stages of construction, development and exploration. Our Tanjianshan Gold Mine is located in a physically challenging environment in China’s north-west.

We are currently seeking an experienced Senior Safety Manager to develop, implement and manage the occupational health, safety and environment systems for the Tanjianshan Gold Mine. This position will report to the General Manager, Tanjianshan and work closely with the Occupational, Health & Safety (OHS) Manager, China.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Continually review and audit site compliance to OHS&E policies and procedures and ensure policies and procedures are being followed at the ground floor, revise as needed
  • Work closely with safety department subordinates and supporting department managers to ensure all are aligned in terms of safety and that a common message is being communicated
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a national safety team.
  • Review safety training practice and revise as needed to ensure world class training standards are met.
  • Manage legal permitting & approval, the qualification and license which relates to safety, health and environment.
  • Review all documentation relevant to the ICMC ensuring shortfalls are identified and rectified and ensure compliance
  • Review current site ERT status and provide management with a gap analysis
  • Design an appropriate internal training program to improve skills of ERT members
  • Set up regular OHS&E cost control measures
  • Submit all relevant reports regarding OHS&E to government agencies in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Lead environmental team and reduce environmental risk on and around site.
  • Understand and implement Chinese environmental standards at all times.
  • Report environmental incidents in a timely fashion.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Significant experience in occupational health and safety, including experience in the mining industry
  • Formal Training in Health & Safety management is preferred.
  • High level understanding of all relevant occupational health and safety legislation and in the development and implementation of OHS management systems
  • Experience in managing department costs and budgeting.
  • Sound knowledge of ICMC including experience with ICMC implementation
  • Previous experience working with foreign cultures.

This position will initially be offered as a 2 year fly-in, fly-out position.
