Career Opportunity – Senior Operations Manager, Grassy Mountain Operations (NOC 0811)  

Benga Mining Ltd a subsidiary of the Australian based Riversdale Resources Ltd is looking for a Senior Operations Manager for their mining project at Crowsnest Pass reporting directly to the company President. The applicant must be prepared to relocate to the Crowsnest Pass municipality and be on call as and when required.  

Key Responsibilities are as follows:

  • Develop and implement site safety protocols for all site based activities in accordance with Riversdale’s safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  • To provide site inductions to visitors, field staff, contractors and consultants to ensure their work and activity is carried out in accordance with Riversdale’s safety policies and regulatory requirements.
  •  To develop specifications for drilling programs requiring expert advice on appropriate techniques and equipment suitable to the required task.
  • To prepare contract and tender documents in collaboration with other Riversdale managers and legal advisors and evaluate tender submissions.
  • Source and recommend for engagement suitable civil work, drilling and other site contractors who will perform work based on Riversdale’s contract specifications.
  • To oversee this work in terms of performance and contract compliance and to direct and schedule the activities as required.
  • To assist in the development and control of project budgets and work schedules.
  • To receive and review contractor invoices and billing statements and provide recommendations for payment.
  • To provide safety and technical training for local employees.
  • To direct and instruct local site based employees to perform job tasks as required.
  • To manage and assist the permitting requirements of both the ESRD and the AER.  Work closely with consultants to ensure productivity.
  • Community engagement

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Qualified candidates will hold a suitable diploma in Drilling and be a qualified Trainer and Assessor. Other combinations of education/experience may be considered.
  • 20+ years of Drilling exploration and suitable heavy industry experience. The suitable applicant will be able to prove ability to operate drilling rig equipment utilizing diamond and tungsten core methods, with a good knowledge of top drive and chuck type drilling rigs, experience in high pressure air and water drilling methods.
  • 12+ years supervisory experience in the exploration of Coal and understand all aspects of drill exploration process. Must be technical as well hands on with the ability to trouble shoot and advise suitable methods.
  • Must have a good understanding of environmental requirements and be able to manage construction crews in the road building and drill site preparation in compliance with local government requirements.  
  • Good written and verbal communication (English), computer based skills with good internal reporting skills.
  • Must have a good understanding of geology and be able to discuss formation issues and suitable requirement strategies to ensure the strata and recovery process is efficient in line with the Geological advisors.
  • Problem solving and people skills are essential part of this position and the applicant must demonstrate this ability as a major requirement within this roll.  
  • Demonstrate a good understanding of the Alberta Regulatory process.
  • Good Community relations skills a must.

LOCATION

Crowsnest Pass is a mountain community located two hours south of Calgary, Alberta.  Crowsnest Pass has a population of 6000 and offers numerous services, including; a 24‐hr emergency, acute and continuing care hospital, schools from kindergarten to grade 12, a sports complex, a championship golf course, major banks / credit union, restaurants and supermarkets.    The area is famous for its spectacular mountain vistas and adventure tourism.    It is a favourite destination for downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, caving, fly fishing and hunting.

Compensation

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Contract position – 40 hrs/week (and on call)

- Salary per annum – CAD $180,000 – $225,000 (based on experience)
