Chief Mine Engineer (Engineering)

Responsibilities:

  •                Responsible for developing mining methods to improve mining effectiveness and safety, improve mining economics and minimize environmental impacts.
  •               Develop and optimize mine designs, production procedures and systems, mine production planning, scheduling and drill and blast designs
  •               Monitor realization of targets for production, grade quality of ore, utilization of workforce and equipment and submit regular reports on costs and performance of mining and projects
  •               Ensure the mine operates in a manner consistent with existing department policies, programs, procedures and legislative/regulatory requirements
  •               Ensure that production targets are achieved and mineral resource extraction optimized
  •               Develop annual strategic plans and life of mine plans
  •               Determine safe and efficient means of mining gold deposits
  •               Participate in safety, environmental and quality control processes and initiatives
  •               Facilitate problem solving and implementation of solutions, in liaison with geologists
  •               Coordinate and compile operating and capital budgets
  •               Coach and mentor subordinate mine engineers and mine planners
  •               Annual reserve calculations

Requirements:

  •               A BSc Mine Engineering with a minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive "hands on" professional experience, with the majority in underground mining
  •               Registered (or eligible for registration) with the Professional Engineers Ontario
  •               High level of computer literacy as applied to mine engineering
  •               Skills to produce mine plans using software such as Mine 24D (EPS), AutoCAD, A-Mine and advanced Excel
  •               Must be familiar with long hole, cut/fill and room and pillar methods of mining
  •               Must be familiar with underground ventilation methods and the use of ventilation software such as VnetPC.
  •               Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational and presentation skills
  •               The capability to work positively with a team of professional and technical people in a changing, creative and energetic environment
