Coal Preparation Plant Superintendent

Our client is a rapidly growing world-class coal producer with more than 3 billion tons of reserves. They currently operate four highly productive underground coal mines in the Eastern United States and we are helping them to identify a Superintendent who will manage a 2000 tons per hour Coal Preparation Plant that will process approximately 16m raw tons of coal annually.
They will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- The overall operation of the coal preparation plant, including all surface belts, refuse, Load out etc.
- Manage four crews working a four day on/four day off work schedule, whilst prioritizing the implementation of a strong safety culture.
- Monitor the plant and provide technical expertise on any areas where improvements can potentially be made to plant efficiency.
- Regularly assess coal quality via sampling and testing of plant systems to ensure optimum levels of production and efficiency.
- Assist if required in the selection of new equipment and provide technical advice where needed for areas of the coal preparation plant that might require refurbishment.
- Address all labor relations issues.
- Develop short and long range operating and capital budgets.
Qualifications/Experience etc:
- B.S. Engineering Degree in a related field such as Mining or Civil Engineering. An MBA is preferred.
- At least 10 years of progressive hands on experience in a coal prep plant
- Some commercial business exposure would be preferred.
- The ability to develop and execute plans in a leadership role
- A participatory management style, someone who leads by example, motivates and gets results
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interface equally with corporate management and workers at the face.
- Ability to exercise sound business judgment
- Demonstrate, by example, a commitment to working safely.
- High level of energy with ability to work independently and with limited direction.
