Director, Health, Safety and Loss Control: Mexican and South American Operations
Coeur Mining, Inc. (NYSE: CDE) is the largest U.S.-based primary silver producer and a significant gold producer. The Company has four precious metals mines in the Americas employing nearly 2000 people. We are seeking an experienced Director, Health, Safety and Loss Control: Mexican and South American operations to join our Health, Safety and Loss control team at our headquarters in Chicago, Illinois.
The Director, Health, Safety and Loss Control will report directly to the VP-Health, Safety and Loss Control and will be responsible for setting strategic direction for, and integration of safety, into all aspects of the business. They will develop, monitor and implement company safety and health standards, goals and policies which establish health and safety as a key value held across the organization.
In establishing safety as a key value, the Director will:
- Lead efforts to develop and/or maintain the overall safety system for Coeur’s operations in South American and Mexico. Included are standards, policies, SOP’s, guidance documents, etc.
- Provide leadership, support, both domestically and internationally, in the understanding and implementation of the various components of the safety system.
- Direct regular safety and health audits to ensure all active work locations and recommend changes to improve safety performance.
- Assist in development and implementation of industrial hygiene program.
- Provide direction and guidance to site safety personnel, including recommendations for staff development.
- Develop and implement safety leadership training programs for site management personnel, including safety personnel, supervisors and senior management.
- Ensure that international, federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules are observed and that violations or deficiencies are dealt with properly.
- Ensure that compliance of related international agencies' record keeping and internal reporting requirements are met.
- Work with the health and safety budget and provide direction and guidance to site safety personnel related to budget preparation and management.
- Acts as liaison with associations on behalf of Company in areas of safety, health, education, and training.
- The Director will have responsibility over expansion/construction of new sites and projects as they come forth.
- Build partnerships with operations and all other business functions to fully integrate health, safety and loss control.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health and Safety, related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Approximately ten plus years of progressively responsible experience within mining, oil and gas or heavy industrial environments
- Demonstrated understanding of governmental safety and health rules and regulations in Mexico and South America
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
- Frequent global travel required (60-70%)
