Engineering Manager - Mergers and Acquisitions (Engineering)

Summary: Our client is a rapidly growing world-class coal producer with more than 3 billion tons of reserves. They currently operate four highly productive underground coal mines in the Eastern United States and we are helping them to identify an Engineering Manager- Mergers & Acquisitions. Reporting directly to the Chief Commercial Officer, this person will evaluate the technical and commercial viability of potential acquisition opportunities.

They will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
  • Develop, organize and prioritize acquisition pipeline, based on optimizing financial and strategic impact for the company.
  • Undertake feasibility studies.
  • Generate general mine plans for potential reserve acquisitions.
  • Use CAD software and drill-log databases to model potential reserve areas and determine clean, recoverable, saleable coal tonnages.
  • Utilize commercial knowledge and experience to create financial operating models and projections depicting potential acquisition opportunities.
  • Create capital expenditure estimates and projections.

Qualifications/Experience etc:

  • B.S. Mining Engineering. An MBA would be preferred.
  • 3-5 years practical Coal Mining Engineering experience, in addition to commercial business exposure.
  • Experience utilizing various valuation techniques (NPV, DCF, IRR, enterprise multiples etc.) to determine and maximize accretion values.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound business judgment
  • High level of energy, with ability to work independently and with limited direction.
