Our client is actively seeking a Environmental Superintendent to provide leadership and technical support to permit new projects, ensure compliance for existing operations, and implement improvement in environmental performance.
Responsibilities:
- Interfaces with government agencies and the public to reinforce the company's mandate to implement high standards in regard to the environment and responsible project development.
- Be a lead in the development and implementation of new environment and sustainability programs.
- Identifies, tracks, and provides timely feedback to management on regulatory agencies and community concerns and issues being raised as a result of project development and recommend action plans and messages to mitigate the issues.
- Prepares applications for new permits and approvals, license renewals or permit amendments.
- Coordinate the development and implementation of environmental programs required to meet corporate and regulatory standards, inclusive of adherence to the Mining Act and consultation with First Nations
- Develops and implements Environmental Management Plans.
- Maintains timely and effective communications (both formal and informal) between the environmental staff and senior management.
- Involved in presentations and participation with regulatory agencies, meetings and open houses held with aboriginal peoples, stakeholders, sand the business community
- Maintains effective information exchange with all department staff and company personnel regarding the environmental programs.
- Maintains effective information exchange with related departments.
- Keeps departmental staff apprised of on environmental matters that relate to their position.
- Manages operational and capital spending within approved budget
Qualifications:
- Degree in Environmental Science or related fields
- Minimum of 8 plus years' experience in environment and corporate social responsibility preferably in the mining industry or natural resource environment.
- Experience with mine permitting in Ontario.
- High ethical standards, accountability, and integrity.
- Aboriginal cultural awareness and engagement experience.
- Business Acumen: Understands complex business issues to clearly articulate key messages to target audiences (employees, community, media, etc.).
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong demonstrated ability to adapt to audience's needs (employees, management, community, etc.).
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time.
- Conduct investigations and perform root cause analysis.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and within established timelines.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
- Proven initiative and self-motivation.
- Strong MS Office, computer skills and budgeting processes.
