Career Opportunity – General Manager – Mine, Grassy Mountain Operations (NOC 0811)  

Benga Mining Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Riversdale Resources Limited headquartered in Sydney, Australia is proposing to develop a steelmaking coal mine, referred to as the Grassy Mountain Project in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta, Canada.   We are currently in the permitting application phase of the project and are planning an open‐cut mine, targeting 4.5 million tonnes of hard coking coal per year over a minimum 25 year mine life.   

The General Manager Grassy Mountain Operations will build a strong team to ensure the strategies and goals for Riversdale’s Grassy Mountain Project are met, focusing on guiding the project through the final stages of permitting including negotiations with governments, Indigenous Peoples and stakeholders; directing the construction of a new world class steelmaking coal mine; and transitioning into mining operations.   

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee the development of a new Grassy Mountain Operations organizational structure and lead the implementation of a high performing team tasked with the construction, operational readiness, commissioning and operation of the Grassy Mountain Project.

Create strong management team collaboration; manage diversity and promote a high performance culture to align the overall team to meet business objectives.    Provide guidance and mentorship to key functional leaders in areas of; operations, sustainable development, environment, health & safety, HR, and finance & accounting.

Develop and build strong relationships; this includes applicable local, provincial, and federal government agencies, Indigenous Peoples, and various interested community members.  This is achieved through developing his/her own sound relationships as well as ensuring applicable direct reports are actively and effectively engaged with same.

Ensure effective project management protocols are in place and followed; this includes efficient timely delivery of project milestones, sound upward project reporting and budgets are managed appropriately.

Ensure the adoption of a formal and structured contract management system is in place and adhered to.

Oversee the implementation and management of an effective, fit for purpose, industry compliant safety management system delivering best in class mine safety performance.

Oversee the preparation and management of all capital and operating plans and budgets and take appropriate action to remain within established and related goals.

Has ultimate accountability for achieving project and mine performance goals covering FOB costs and production.  

At all times demonstrates exceptional stewardship ensuring consideration of internal and external stakeholders, and thus creating maximum value for Riversdale shareholders.   

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 20 years progressive related mining experience; a proven track record in building and leading strong project teams, as well as demonstrated success in the areas of critical analysis, strategic thinking, safety standards, operating procedures, public relations, budgeting and planning. A Bachelor's Science degree in Mining, Metallurgical, Geological Engineering or related discipline and post graduate qualifications in Business Administration or advanced management will be an asset.  Experience in open‐cut steelmaking coal operations will be highly regarded. Good written and verbal communication (English), computer based skills with good internal reporting skills.

LOCATION

Crowsnest Pass is a mountain community located two hours south of Calgary, Alberta. Crowsnest Pass has a population of 6000 and offers numerous services, including; a 24‐hr emergency, acute and continuing care hospital, schools from kindergarten to grade 12, a sports complex, a championship golf course, major banks / credit union, restaurants and supermarkets.  The area is famous for its spectacular mountain vistas and adventure tourism.  It is a favorite destination for downhill and cross country skiing, hiking, climbing, mountain biking, caving, fly fishing and hunting.

Compensation

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

- Contract position – full time, 40 hours/week, on call

- Salary per annum CAD $300,000 – $350,000 (based on experience)

- Long term and short term incentives may be offered
