About the opportunity:

We are currently working in partnership with the Queensland Government - Department of Natural Resources and Mines, to recruit a Geoscience Manager for the Coal Geoscience team within the Geological Survey of Queensland (GSQ).

The purpose of the role is to provide leadership and management to the Coal Geoscience team and to promote develop the resource potential of coal in QLD to a variety of customers. This will include delivery of geoscientific programs, compiling and maintaining coal resource data and acting as an advisor on issues relating to coal resources.

The position will report to the Chief Government Geologist and will play a key role in the future of Coal resources in Queensland.

About you:

To be successful for this position, you will need a strong technical background in geology and significant experience in coal projects in Queensland preferably in exploration and resource assessment.

You will be able to liaise effectively with a variety of key stakeholders such as Mining companies, Consultancies, Investors, Technical organisations, Community groups, Ministers and other Government departments in relation to technical and other issues.

You will also be able to lead and manage a team of 8 geological professionals with support from other senior staff in the department.

What you need:

• A Tertiary degree in Geology (Postgraduate qualifications regarded)
• Around 15 + years relevant postgraduate experience.
• Significant experience in Coal projects in Queensland ideally in exploration.
• Excellent people skills and the ability to liaise and communicate effectively with a variety of key stakeholders 
• Previous People Management and leadership experience
• Previous Project Management experience 
• The ability to plan and schedule resources, workloads and projects effectively 
• A keen interest or passion in the area of Coal Geology!
