We are currently recruiting for a Health, Safety & Environmental Manager to join our client working on major mining projects in West Africa. This is a permanent position with excellent salary and benefits package.
In the role you will work flexibly, as part of a major team, to tight deadlines and have strong experience of major international projects. You will work on a rotation basis out of the UK (possibly mainland Europe) or South Africa.
Key Responsibilities/Experience:
- Ensure the Mining HSE policy and standards are implemented consistently across the project including courageous leadership
- Develop project specific HSE strategies, policies, standards, procedures and objectives for the project
- Ensure strategies, policies, standards, procedures and objectives are communicated to client team, EPCM and contractors
- Develop safe work procedures and standards as necessary, provide expert review and revision on contractor standards
- Monitor evaluate and review HSE practices and outcomes amongst EPCM and contractors, make recommendation and implement action plans as required
- Ensure project complies will all laws and regulations, in particular with respect to environmental matters.
- Ensure regular audits take place on all HSE policies and standards and take appropriate corrective action
- Assist and where necessary lead training for contractors and employees
- Carry out risk assessments and provide recommendation on risk reduction strategies
- Investigate or assist in the investigation of the circumstances and causes of accidents or near misses and take necessary steps to prevent a reoccurrence
- Prepare regular reports on metrics and HSE activities
- Chair the Project HSE committee & keep up to date on HSE best practices
Essential
- Degree qualified
- Extensive construction/project HSE experience
- Extensive experience in developing countries from an HSE perspective
