Metallurgist II (Engineering)

We currently seek a high caliber Metallurgist II for a long-term direct hire basis within our client’s team of experienced professionals. Based in Arizona.

Job Requirements

Under general supervision, provides technical expertise, guidance and leadership in metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site.
• Assists in metallurgical study, development, testing and analyses of designs, processes or procedures
• Reports on metallurgical or process issues and makes recommendations to Chief Metallurgist on how to resolve/correct the issues
• Reviews and recommends new or enhanced metallurgical testing equipment or protocols
• Contributes to the improvement of metallurgical process
• Evaluates and administers contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment
• Provides guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations
• Maintains current working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local regulations
• Performs other duties as required

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy or related engineering discipline and three (3) years experience in metallurgy or closely related engineering field, OR
• Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy and sixteen (16) months engineering rotational experience within Freeport-McMoRan, with at least 2-3 months per rotation, based on one of the following guidelines. Additional experience during the rotation should include exposure to business systems and financial analysis, leadership/management training, ISO systems training and MSHA safety training.
o Mine Process Engineering - rotation through leaching, materials, SXEW, and concentrator operations.
o Mine Engineering - rotation through mine planning, ore control, surveying, drilling and blasting, slope stability, plant operations, and underground and/or open pit mining, OR
• Master's degree in Metallurgy or related Engineering discipline and two (2) years related experience in metallurgy or related engineering field.
• Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex metallurgical and processing analyses
• Able to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions
• Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
