Position Summary

First Nickel is one of Canada’s premiere nickel/copper companies with near term production from the Lockerby Mine Project in the Sudbury area.  First Nickel maintains a safe and environmentally friendly compliant operation and has been named one of the top five employers in Northern Ontario for 2012. 

The Mine Engineer will be a member of the Engineering department at Lockerby Mine providing production and mine planning services to assist the mine operations to safely and efficiently extract ore and develop headings.  The successful candidate must be able to build and maintain relationships and interact with other technical staff, supervision, and hourly employees.  The position will involve regular trips underground to visit areas of responsibility.

Essential Functions

• Works in compliance with First Nickel Inc. safety rules and the Internal Responsibility System. 
• Must be physically able to conduct the assigned work such as walking up and down ramps, ladders and stairways. 
• Participates in appropriate training and complies within the Environmental Management System. 
• Working on a wide range of mine planning and design as well as development activities such as economic evaluation and productivity analysis 
• Carrying out assessments through geological interpretation and geotechnical design. 
• Involved with drill and blast engineering. 
• Providing support to the mining operations.

Qualifications and Skills Requirements

Bsc Mine Engineering; Minimum 5 years’ experience in mining engineering
