Our client, a successful, growth-oriented gold mining and exploration company is looking for a seasoned mine engineer with the capacity to train and mentor a staff of local and expat engineers. The successful candidate must have in depth experience in large open pit operations in the precious metals industry. The company is engaged in the acquisition, exploration, development and operation of gold properties in Central Asia, the former Soviet Union and other emerging markets and wants to continue this success by upgrading the skills of local engineers.

The Engineering Manager is responsible for all aspects of mine engineering services to the mining operation. This operating gold mine is a 500k tpd open pit operation.  Reporting to the Mine Manager the incumbent directly manages a large department, consisting of mining engineers, geotechnical engineers and geologists.

Responsibilities shall include:

Leading and directing of Mining Engineers ensuring best practice throughout the mining engineering discipline, including:

Short and long term mine planning
Pit Engineering functions (drill and blast design, survey, ore control and dispatch system)
Geotechnical Engineering
Mine Geology
Tailings Dam engineering
Strategic mine development studies
Coordination of staff training and development programs.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A related mining degree.
  • A minimum of 15 years experience in mine engineering with a minimum of five years recent management experience. Prior experience in a FSU country, or other expatriate environment, would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with reserve estimation techniques, pit optimization programs and open pit mining techniques will be a requirement.
  • Good computer skills together with a working knowledge of mining software programs.
  • Well developed inter-personal skills with an aptitude for leadership and training.
  • Medically able to work at altitude. 

This is a resident position, in large city in Central Asia though the incumbent will work and live at the mine site during the work schedule, working a 9 days on, 5 days off roster.
