A Canadian-listed, well-financed mining company focused on the acquisition, growth and development of gold deposits is rapidly expanding its operations in Namibia and currently require a Mine Geologist Superintendent to join their team.    
   
Duties and responsibilities    
   
- The position is responsible for running the long term and the day to day aspects of the mine geology section on a producing gold mine. Ensuring the geology section meets the needs of an expanding operation while maintaining an international standard of practice.  
- The position will be responsible for management of the open pit mine ore control activities, geologic interpretation, production infill drilling, and delivering production data and reports. Emphasis will be on ore grade control, minimizing of dilution, sorting of ore types and tracking ore stockpile quantities and quality.  
- The position manages an established team of geologists, junior geologists, ore spotters and samplers.  
- Long term planning to ensure the section meets the needs of the Mine Plan.  
- Optimize the extraction of mineralized zones and minimize dilution  
- Design grade control drilling program and ensure adequate drilling coverage  
- Ensure representative sample  
- Liaise with Assay laboratories to ensure compliance to standards through QAQC  
- Manage the production of grade control estimates  
- Manage production activities in the pit to optimise extraction and realise resource potential  
- Maintain the site geological model and a database of up to date geological observations  
- Liaise with Load and Haul on a daily basis to ensure minimal ore loss and dilution  
- Assist in design of open pit mine development  
- Prepare clearly written monthly reports and other documentation on required frequencies  
- Preform model reconciliations  
- Assist in mine planning activities for both short term and long term  
- Ensure that geological considerations are incorporated in short and long term planning  
- Training and mentoring of geologists and junior geologists  
- Report to Corporate to ensure compliance with company standards  
- Liaise with Corporate Resource Department for new reserve and resource estimates  
- Maintain constructive and effective working relationships with employees, contractors and consultants  
- Perform other duties as required in support of Company objectives  
- Report directly to the Assistant General Manager and to the Corporate Chief Geologist Operations.  
   
Competencies and requirements  
   
- BSc Degree with post graduate qualification in Geology, Geologic Engineering or equivalent  
- Minimum 10 years' experience, at least 5 years exposure to mining and 5 years at a supervisory level  
- Proficient in geostatistics and 3D orebody modelling  
- Experience with vein hosted mineralisation preferably gold  
- Designing of open pit mine development  
- Capable of utilizing latest computer and software technologies such as Microsoft office products, CAD software and mining programs preferably Surpac  
- Supervisory experience with both technical and non-technical personnel  
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize time, work and resources  
- Namibian National or in possession of a Namibian Permanent Residency preferred  
- Possession of Code B drivers' license  
- Ability to manage contractors and consultants
