Whitehaven Coal has commenced operations at its flagship Maules Creek Project and is seeking high-performing individuals to join the team and play a significant part in this exciting Greenfield operation. Maules Creek comprises one of the most significant multi-seam coal deposits in New South Wales which is expected to sustain a potential project life in excess of 30 years.

The Mine Geologist will be accountable for optimising the value of Maules Creek’s open cut coal resource through the collection, interpretation, distribution and reconciliation of geological data and provision of geological advice.

Reporting to the Technical Services Superintendent, the Mine Geologist role is multi-faceted and will include duties such as:

  • Collecting in-pit and stockpile samples;
  • Monitoring geotechnical conditions in the pit and communicating recommendations for control of geotechnical hazards;
  • Developing accurate geological models including correlation of coal seam and coal quality data;
  • Monitoring development drilling and exploration programs;
  • Managing the geological database;
  • Providing geological reports to ensure coal quality, production and market reconciliation;
  • Reconciliation of modelled geology with mining outcomes for feedback into model and plan.

The successful applicant will possess the following qualifications and personal qualities:

  • Aligned to the Whitehaven Coal Values;
  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology;
  • Supervisors Certificates (S1, S2, S3);
  • At least 2 years experience in coal mine geology;
  • GIS/Geological Modelling software experience desirable;
  • Locally based, or willing to relocate to the area;
  • Positive and team-focused;
  • Strongly committed to safety, the environment and our community;
  • Working to ensure the highest personal standards of behaviour and discipline at all times.

Maules Creek is located within the Narrabri Shire which is conveniently located halfway between Brisbane and Sydney and is well serviced by road, rail and air. The Narrabri Shire has established health care infrastructure and a wide selection of public and secondary schools offering great teaching and learning opportunities.
