Mine Manager / Superintendent – Underground Coal

Our client is a rapidly growing world-class coal producer with more than 3 billion tons of reserves. They currently operate four highly productive underground coal mines in the Eastern United States and we are helping them to identify a Mine Manager/Superintendent who will manage a new longwall mining complex that is budgeted to produce up to 8 million clean tons of Coal annually.
They will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
- Coordinate the coal production from two continuous miner development sections and a longwall operation.
- Prioritize the implement a strong safety culture
- Manage a 120-130 person workforce on a 5 ½ day/week work schedule.
- Enhance the efficiency and flexibility of operations to optimize revenues and profits through optimal production volume.
- Establish a long-term operations strategy and agenda for the operations.
- Recruit, select, train and motivate capable management personnel.
- Address all labor relations issues.
- Develop short and long range production schedules and operating and capital budgets.
Qualifications/Experience etc:
- B.S. Degree in Mining Engineering or related field. An MBA is preferred.
- 5 -10 years of experience as a longwall foreman or coordinator.
- Commercial business exposure is preferred.
- The ability to develop and execute plans in a leadership role
- A participatory management style, leads by example, motivates and gets results
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interface equally with corporate management and workers at the face.
- Ability to exercise sound business judgment
- Demonstrates, by example, a commitment to working safely.
- High level of energy with ability to work independently and with limited direction.
