Due to customer demand BlueScope Steel is investing and expanding its Taharoa Mine located on the beautiful west coast of New Zealand Northern Island. This is a small and specialised Iron sands mine employing over 100 people and looking to significantly increase its size and output over the next 6 to 12 months as well as invest heavily in process improvement initiatives and skills development.
As a result we are looking for an experience mine manager who will be reporting to an off site Vice President capable of leading the operation through the expansion and into operational improvement. The site is supported by a well established work force and technical skills and we are looking for a leader strong in process improvement, stakeholder engagement and people development who can lead the mine through its growth phase and help design a path for its ongoing future. This is a leadership role with relevant management experience in a variety of mining methods being considered. The expansion will see an increase of Iron sand production from about 1.3mtpa to 4mtpa by 2016 and represents and considerable investment by BlueScope. This is a sand mine operating a small fleet supporting a floating dredge adjacent a floating concentration plant for processing. The concentration plant produces between 200 and 300 tonnes of magnetic concentrate an hour. The concentrate is extracted from the raw sand in a series of separation processes, then pumped in slurry form to a stockpiling area two kilometres away before ship loading.
Taharoa Mine is in an isolated location offering a beautiful lifestyle and culture. The mine is a significant employer locally and this position will work very closely with the local community and stakeholders. The role will suit an experienced professional happy to be based in such a location for at least a few years to see the expansion through and drive improvements.
