MINE MANAGER

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the General Manager, the Mine Manager is responsible to ensure that the production capacity of the mine is optimized and maintained, and targets for recovery of ore and waste materials are achieved in a safe and efficient manner The Mine Manager works closely with other departments to meet or exceed the Company’s

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE

  • Develop staff and evaluate their performance to make recommendations regarding selection, promotion, transfer or termination.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the mine and policies and procedures which are consistent with immediate and long-range corporate objectives.
  • Ensure that objectives are established and met for production, costs, mine development, quality control, safety, hygiene, environmental performance and personnel development.
  • Develop and maintain close communications and coordination with maintenance, mill, geology, and environmental groups, as well as other departments to provide and receive information and keep abreast of new developments and changing needs.
  • Participate in the annual mine budget; control and monitor costs and explain variances.
  • Seek increased profitability by implementing measures to reduce operating costs and optimize mine production.
  • Ensure that the mine operation complies with all environmental regulations.
  • Ensure that adequate safety procedures and health programs are developed and adhered to in accordance with Company policy and appropriate regulations.
  • Proactively monitor mine plan compliance and ensure that departmental priorities are aligned with mine plan objectives
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency of all mining related activities – drill, blast, load, haulage and support
  • Coordinate survey control of mine development to assure mine planning is being followed and to locate and track all drilling
  • Support annual reconciliation of each years plan with mine and crusher data collection, survey control and annual plan updates.
  • Formulate department schedules and communicate such to the supervisors for implementation of operations and maintenance.
  • Review maintenance schedules of major pieces of equipment to maximize equipment availability in a cost-effective manner while minimizing down time and un-scheduled repairs.
  • Participate in Staff Meetings to interact with The Operations Manager and other Department Managers.
  • Ensure that the approved mining plan is properly implemented; that production goals are established and met; that mine ventilation is properly maintained; and that development is scheduled and completed
  • Provide management direction to all mining personnel

REQUIRED EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 10 years mine operations experience preferably in an underground mine environment.
  • Supervisory experience – minimum 5 years
  • B.S. Mining Engineering or other related field.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English required
