Managed by Yancoal Australia Group, Cameby Downs Mine is an open cut operation located in southeast Queensland, approximately 360km northwest of Brisbane. The Mine is situated along the Warrego Highway approximately 16km northeast of Miles and 30km northwest of Chinchilla in the Surat Basin.

Cameby Downs is a low cost - long life operation producing low ash thermal coal, exported through theQueensland Bulk Handling facility in Brisbane.

Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, the successful applicant will be a part of the Cameby Downs Mine Planning team responsible for the design, coordination and implementation of Mine Plans for the Cameby Downs Operation.

The Mine Planning Geologist position will influence the coal mining environment and planning processes at Cameby Downs through improved coal geology planning and business improvement strategies for the winning of coal. The position will also assume responsibility of providing technical knowledge regarding geotechnical risk with the assistance of external and internal geotechnical content experts. Additional roles and responsibilities will be optimised to suit the candidate's strengths and Mine Planning Team's requirements. 

Key accountabilities of the role include;

  • Coordinating the development of the coal mining sequence and design;
  • Scheduling of coal mining operations;
  • Coal tonnage reporting and reconciliation of geological modelling and coal mining;
  • Short term geological modelling;
  • Geotechnical compliance and planning functions;
  • Demonstrate support and initiative of cost drivers and KPI's to promote positive business performance. 

Essential attributes for the successful applicant include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, geology or a related discipline;
  • Geotechnical training and expertise;
  • Thorough understanding of the safety requirements of the Coal Mining Industry, through previous mining experience;
  • Current Queensland Coal Mining Induction (Standard 11) preferred;
  • Current Coal Board Medical preferred;
  • Current Driver's License (Manual);
  • Software experience in Maptek Vulcan or iSite, Galena or similar.

Compensation

Attractive remuneration package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered for this position. This is a Monday to Friday roster suited to a local living arrangement. Conditions of employment will be discussed at the time of the interview.
