Full Time

  Hays Specialist Recruitment Limited (http://www.hays.ca/)

New Iberia Parish, Louisiana, United States

Hays Resources and Mining have partnered with North America’s leading salt producer, Morton Salt, to find a Mine Production Superintendent for their underground mine in Louisiana. This job opportunity will give the successful candidate the opportunity to lead a team who are aiming to greatly boost the production output of the mine.

The New Iberia Parish in Louisiana is steeped in history and offers an exceptional sup-tropical lifestyle that very few parts of the United States can match. The rich culture of the area is infused with every aspect of life, from the food to the celebrations and the stunning scenery. This position offers a package close to ten times the mean individual income for the area and as such the cost of living is very affordable. Families and individuals will both love the local community that offers all the amenities, fantastic weather and the opportunity to experience the southern lifestyle.

The Mine Production Superintendent will work closely with the General Superintendent who has the primary objective of raising the mine production levels to meet the increasing levels of demand for salt. The position will supervise four Mine Foremen who manage the mining crews. The Mine Production Superintendent will work closely with the Foremen to monitor and benchmark the performance of the crews and ultimately to find and implement improvements to the current processes. The Superintendent will be required to lead from the front, engage with the mining crews and develop a workplace environment that is productive and efficient.

To be suitable for this role the successful candidate will have at least five years of supervisory experience in an underground mining operation and have a demonstrated track record of leadership and delivery. Mining a salt dome in room and pillar fashion, the operation requires an individual familiar with a range of underground skills including rock bolting, undercutting, scaling, blasting, vertical drilling and large-scale production.

Whilst an engineering degree is not a pre-requisite for the position, the Mine Production Superintendent will be required to deal with complex situations as they arise and must be an adept problem-solver.

Safety at the operation is a primary concern for Morton Salt and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their commitment to the safe development of the operation. As part of this safety culture, the Mine Production Superintendent will ideally have had MSHA mine training and be familiar with the federal regulations. The Mine Production Superintendent must be a clear communicator who is comfortable working with all levels of the business and getting boots on the ground in the mine.

This position is ideally suited to a candidate who is looking to continue to develop their career with North America’s leading salt producer, in a mine that offers exceptional potential. Whilst other commodities have faced steep declines in their price, salt is experiencing strong growth that is expected to continue into the foreseeable future.
