Mining Manager -Tanjianshan (Management & Executives)

Tanjianshan Gold Mine is located in a physically challenging environment in China’s north-west. Mine output is currently up to 1.5 mta of ore from one open pit with underground operations due to commence within the next 12 months. The process plant includes SAG milling, sulphide flotation, CIL, roasting and sulphuric acid production. Annual gold production is 100,000 ounces.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will oversee day to day operation of open pit and while managing the transition to underground operations, you will ensure key production, safety and environmental targets are met. The role includes identifying and implementing ongoing improvements to mining operations, and supervising a primary mining contractor as well as a team of national engineers and geologists. Key tasks include:

  • Thoroughly understand and promote safe operating principles across site.
  • Lead production teams to achieve KPI’s and production targets.
  • Optimize ore output from both open pit and underground operations through effective mine scheduling.
  • Review short and long term mine plans/designs to ensure maximum long term value is achieved.
  • Manage mine cost and promote lean operating principles.
  • Prepare regular production and progress reports on mine operation and development.
  • In consultation with General Manager and Corporate head office engage in resource/reserve modelling.
  • Be proficient in the use of Surpac or equivalent mining software.
  • Drive continuous improvement in all aspects of mining operations.
  • Provide strong departmental leadership.
  • Ensure all work is carried out according to safety, environmental and other relevant policies and procedures

Ideally, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in mine engineering
  • 10+ years’ post graduate experience 
  • 3 years’ experience at a similar management role 
  • Previous experience managing the transition from open pit to underground operations will be highly regarded.
