Heavy Equipment Operator - Seasonal (June-September 2014)

LOCATION:

Nechako Plateau, Central British Columbia

POSITION SCOPE:

The Heavy Equipment Operator reports to the Camp Manager and provides road building and road maintenance support as well as drilling pad construction activities to support to the site operations and exploration team at the Blackwater Project. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment including excavators, dozers, and front-end loaders to support drilling activity.
  • Construction of temporary roads and drill pads.
  • Operates heavy equipment to move drills to new drill locations.
  • General road maintenance and snow removal.
  • Follows scheduled maintenance of mobile equipment and ensures equipment is in safe working condition
  • Works and lives in a remote camp on a shift rotation - 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off
  • Other related duties to support the team as required to ensure the Blackwater Project is a success.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • 5+ years’ experience operating heavy equipment in a remote logging or exploration operation 
  • Proficiency in operating excavators, front-end loaders, and dozers.
  • Grade 12 or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Class 1 drivers’ Licence  
  • Heavy Equipment Operation Certification is preferred
  • Valid First Aid Level 3 Training is considered an asset
  • Previous experience building drill pads and road building for an exploration project is considered an asset
  • The ideal candidate is self-motivated, team oriented and capable of working with limited supervision 
  • Mechanically inclined and able to perform basic mechanical maintenance
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to organize and manage changing priorities and deadlines to support the project requirements
  • A team player with demonstrated leadership in safety
