Senior Environmental Engineer / Hydrogeochemist (Engineering)

Job Summary
The Senior Environmental Engineer/Hydrogeochemist will manage multiple environmental studies including environmental resources, hydrogeochemistry, groundwater transport modeling, and potential impact analysis. The successful candidate will oversee an extensive material characterization program and will coordinate with our engineering team to evaluate potential impacts of alternative designs, determine appropriate source control and treatment technologies, and develop an integrated site-wide water model. Responsibilities also include supporting environmental compliance efforts, ISO 14001 implementation, and continuous improvement of the Twin Metals Minnesota environmental program.   The successful candidate will prepare presentations for and participate in meetings with state and federal agencies, community stakeholders, and company management.

Job Responsibilities
• Coordinates  and manages multiple environmental consultants;
• Manages waste characterization projects;
• Manages surface water and groundwater quality impact prediction and mitigation development projects;
• Coordinates with project design team regarding pollution prevention and mitigation technologies;
• Manages multiple aspects of environmental permitting and data collection programs;
• Prepares and delivers presentations to company management;
• Develops operating and capital budgets for environmental study and permitting programs;
• Coordinates with all company departments to promote a culture of environmental stewardship and responsibility;
• Participates in continual improvement of environmental programs and procedures; and,
• Participates in development and implementation of an environmental management system.

Knowledge and Experience
 Minimum 10 years experience in the mining industry, including at least 5 years of project management
• B.S.  in geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, or associated degree (MS preferred but not required)
• Knowledge of mineral deposit mineralogy
• Knowledge of mine waste disposal, mineral processing and mineral processing methods
• Experience  with waste characterization, including static and kinetic testing

• Demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary technical projects
• Ability to analyze groundwater hydrogeochemical predictions, including groundwater and surface water quality predictions, wall rock/groundwater interactions, and seepage and runoff water quality
• Familiarity with mine water treatment systems
• Familiarity with NEPA and other environmental regulations and the development of data to support permitting
