Permanent Position: Senior Mine Geologist

Location: Moose River, Nova Scotia

Atlantic Mining NS Corp. and its parent company are developing the 2mtpa Touquoy open pit gold mine and on-site processing plant in central Nova Scotia as part of the Moose River Consolidated Project. We are currently assembling our key operations team and are eager to attract an experienced, well-credentialed professional to fill the role of Senior Mine Geologist.

 The Senior Mine Geologist position will be based at our Touquoy mine site located at the former village of Moose River Gold Mines (approximately 110 kilometres northeast of Halifax).

This is a permanent and full-time role.

Reporting to the Resident Mine General Manager, this is a critical position within the organization as the optimal outcomes of the operation are highly dependent on precise definition of ore and waste.

The Senior Mine Geologist is ultimately responsible for the identification and demarcation or ore, low grade, and waste on the pit floor and reconciliation of grade control models against the resource model and mill head grade.  Other significant duties of the Senior Mine Geologist include but are not limited to the following:

  • Management and supervision of all aspects of in-pit RC grade control, including assurance of optimal sampling procedures, together with efficient drilling practice, contract negotiations, cost control, and ultimately orderly delivery of samples to the site lab.
  • While not directly responsible for the lab function, input as to internal QA/QC and efficient turnaround as it affects grade control samples.
  • Direction and supervision of grade control database administration and subsequent data processing in accordance with the Company’s software applications leading to timely generation, placement and control of dig lines.
  • Access and input to optimisation of drill and blast operations, and to ore and waste tracking.
  • Leading training programs in respect of MP3 Grade Control software and Multiple Indicator Kriging Resource estimation to other geology staff within the Company
  • Management of regional exploration activities with the goal of enhancing the Company’s current resource base and potentially evaluating prospective deposits not currently owned by the Company
  • Protect and promote the interest of this company in all matters and to take actions as required to satisfy such responsibilities;
  • Ensure safety of fellow employees;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, and Experience:

  • At least 10 years’ practical experience in selective, open pit gold mining, and hands-on application of RC grade control practices.
  • An understanding of sampling theory and practice, reconciliation procedures, and mine scheduling.
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of software applications including GEMS/Surpac and MP3 Grade Control System, and solid background knowledge of geostatistical resource estimation modelling, including Multiple Indicator Kriging (MIK) resource modelling.
  • Demonstrable leadership qualities with a strong motivation to embrace safe work practices, to work harmoniously with site operators, and to train and mentor junior personnel.
  • Masters in Geology or Geosciences
  • Experience in leadership over safety programs and protocols is a condition of employment

Compensation

Remuneration:

We offer a comprehensive compensation package including a salary in the range of $140,000 to $170,000, a competitive benefits package including reimbursement of eligible medical expenses up to a value of $2400 and 15 days of vacation per year and relocation assistance.

This position will be eligible for periodic salary increases and performance-based bonuses, to be awarded at the sole discretion of management.
