Eldorado Gold is a Canadian low-cost gold producer with over 20 years of experience building and operating gold mines in Europe, Asia and South America. We have seven operating mines and a pipeline of projects in different stages of construction, development, and exploration.

Our Tanjianshan Mine (TJS) is located northwest of Beijing, in Qinghai Province, China.  Current open pit operations will be expanding to include underground mining in the near term.

Tanjianshan Gold Mine is located in a physically challenging environment in China’s north-west. The Project area comprises 2 mining licenses and 4 contiguous exploration licenses initially covering an area of 340km2. The gold deposits are hosted in tectonically deformed mid-Proterozoic chiastolite schists, carbonaceous phyllite and diorite porphyries of late Variscan age. The project is currently operating one Open Pit and will be transitioning into an underground operation within the next 12 months.

The Position: Reporting to the Mining Manager, you will oversee day to day geological operation of a developing underground mine and an existing open pit. You will ensure key production; safety and environmental targets are met. The role includes identifying and implementing continuous improvements to the operation and supervising and training a team of national geologists.

Key tasks include:

  • Planning and management of grade control drilling systems and associated QAQC.
  • Supervision of onsite contractors as it relates to mine geology.
  • Coordinate the collection and management of surface pit and underground face mapping and core logging to evolve the best possible geological model.
  • Development of geological and geotechnical models to support both underground and open cut mine planning.
  • Reconciliation of ore production against geologic models.
  • Build and supervise a strong mine geology team through mentoring and effective leadership programs.
  • Engage in training, reporting and implementation of safe working systems.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geology is required
  • A strong background in open cut and underground operations with a minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience;
  • Strong working knowledge of modeling software, MineSight preferred but not essential.
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Improvement culture and a proven track record of actively participating in a CI environment;
  • Strong management skills, with a preference for expat experience;
  • Proven ability to deliver results;
  • Strong safety and environmental focus;
  • Confident communicator and leader;
  • Effective report writing skills;
  • Demonstrated cultural sensitivity.
