This exciting role is located at Nyrstar’s Myra Falls operation, part of the Americas group, with the closest community being Campbell River, on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Campbell River is situated along the Georgia Strait, and has around 35,000 residents. Nyrstar Myra Falls is located in spectacular Strathcona Provincial Park, which is a testament to our environmental commitment – the only North American underground mine operating in a provincial park. Surrounded by mountains and lakes, the 1.5 hour trip to the mine has some of the world’s most impressive views. A location like this, both for living and working is rare in the mining industry.

For our Myra Falls mine located nearby Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada, we are currently looking to hire a permanent employee as the:

UNDERGROUND MINE MANAGER

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Underground Mine Manager is accountable to manage and decisively lead all aspects of underground operations, including environmental, health and safety initiatives, supervisor and employee development, project management, cost management and building a constructive and positive working relationship with peers.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

 Meet or exceed underground mining objectives in a safe, effective and cost-effective manner.

 Zero accidents and incidents.

 Meet and/or exceed budgeted development and operational tonnage and grade requirements.

 Cost compliance and tracking of all budgeted operating costs.

 Partner with Mine Technical and Maintenance Departments to ensure optimal operational performance

 Ensure all safety, environmental and training regulations and guidelines are administered.

 Change culture from reactive to PROACTIVE.

Qualifications and Experience:

 Bachelor’s Degree in Mine Engineering with a professional designation/ mine managers certification

 Demonstrated commitment to a zero harm safety culture through modelling safety behaviors and implementing safety improvement initiatives

 Minimum of 20 years practical experience in polymetallic/base metals mining with a minimum of 5 years in underground hard rock mines

 Minimum of 7 years practical experience in managing mine operational, technical, and maintenance functions at the manager-level (responsibility for all 3 functions, not individual)

 Extensive knowledge of mine engineering, mining methods, and industry accepted practices, with significant experience in narrow vein mining methods.

 Demonstrated experience in the development and management (development, feasibility, modelling, and implementation experience) of major research and technology projects to include underground automation

 Demonstrated experience in implementing financial direct operating cost (DOC) reductions

 Demonstrated experience in implementing continuous improvement initiatives to increase throughput

 Demonstrated cultural change experience

 Ability to work within a team environment with demonstrated leadership qualities.

 This is a residential role. No fly in or fly out.

Compensation

Compensation and Benefits:

 Base Annual Salary: between CAD$ 120,000 to CAD$ 160,000.

 Annual Vacation: 20 days.

 Housing support: Interim housing (up to 2 months) while permanent housing is located.

 Transport: Provision of an appropriate motor vehicle for business and private purposes.

family assistance program, vision care, and extended health coverage provided by the company.

 Return Travel to Previous Residence: Nyrstar will provide 1 economy class round trip airfare ticket per family member from Campbell River to the employee’s previous residence at the end
of the first year of employment (valid for the end of the first year only).
