Underground Planning Engineer (Engineering)

Mount Polley Mining Corporation has a position available for a permanent, full‐time Underground Mine Planning Engineer for its +1000 tpd longhole mining operation.  Reporting to the Senior Mine Engineer, this position is responsible for providing technical expertise and assistance to the engineering department in their efforts to achieve departmental and site objectives.

POSITION & RESPONSIBILITIES 

Working with the mine engineering team, the Underground Planning Engineer will hold a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: 

  • Generate weekly production plans for underground operations using long range objectives as guidance. 
  • Interface between the Operations and Engineering groups to ensure effective planning. 
  • Maintain clear records and provide clear communication to ensure optimal operational performance. 
  • Reconcile production results with targets and respond to disparities. 
  • Monitor and maintain computer systems and digital records related to mine operations and planning.  
  • Perform mine infrastructure design and planning. 
  • Perform all stope designs including: definition drilling, access planning, cable bolting, production drilling, and blast plans.   
  • Provide QA/QC on ground support installations and CRF backfill. 
  • Assist with underground surveying and other tasks as required.  

With safety as a core value, the Underground Planning Engineer will provide technical and operational expertise to the Company while becoming a valuable member of the engineering department.  The candidate will also be responsible for reporting on departmental progress, as well as identifying and developing continual improvement areas to support the needs of the operation.    

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering 
  • Operational experience relevant to the tasks described above is required  
  • Speak and write English fluently 
  • Strong leadership, self‐motivation, communication, organizational skills, a strong work ethic are required 
  • An ability to work alone and in a team 

Applicants will be considered for a level within the job progression that is appropriate to their qualifications.  Based upon the experience level of the candidate, a customized progression plan will be developed.  Work schedule is Monday to Thursday, 7am to 5pm.  Transportation is provided from Williams Lake and several other local communities.
